Most professionals use Claude to write things. A capability statement. An executive summary. A section of a proposal.
That is genuinely useful.
But it is nowhere near the ceiling of what’s possible.
Claude can build fully functional, interactive intelligence tools, dashboards that run live in your browser, update in real time, filter by category, and surface the exact information your team needs at exactly the moment they need it.

A static document tells you who someone is. An interactive dashboard shows you who they are, what they care about, how urgently you need to reach them, who they connect to, and what your opening conversation should look like, all in one click, in under ten seconds.
That is the difference between information and intelligence. And it changes how a business development and capture team walks into a room. It can change how your senior leadership looks at risk and decides if an opportunity is worth pursuing or not.
We are going to dive into how to build one today.

Let’s Build
The process has four steps. Each one matters.
Step 1
Start with a problem, not a format request. The worst prompt you can give Claude is “build me a dashboard.”
That tells it nothing.
The right prompt names the specific decision the tool needs to support. For a recent federal construction pursuit, the framing was this: “My team is preparing a capture strategy for an $8 billion NAVFAC Washington Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) –Solicitation N4008025R9500. I need an interactive and dynamic stakeholder map that shows every decision-maker by organizational tier. This includes senior level Officers, contracting officers, Program Managers, etc. I need these to be verified and credible links. Let me filter and search by role, and show a full engagement strategy when I click on any name.“ One paragraph. Four pieces of information: the problem, the structure, the interaction, the purpose.

Step 2
Feed it the research first. A dashboard is only as good as the intelligence behind it. Before the build prompt, run the research in the same conversation. For the NAVFAC pursuit, that meant querying websites for current command leadership, cross-referencing SAM.gov for the active solicitation records, LinkedIn records, website data, open source (and verified) presentations, pulling USASpending for past award patterns, and surfacing public quotes from each key stakeholder.
Claude aggregated thirteen verified contacts across six organizational tiers, with confirmed names, titles, publicly stated priorities, influence ratings on award decisions, and engagement strategies grounded in what each person had actually said on record.
What would have taken a research analyst two to three days of manual work took roughly four hours in a single Claude conversation.
Then you take the analyst’s first take and share it with your business development team, who can help verify all the data on the account, the decision makers, etc.
Step 3
Write the build prompt like a design brief. Specify the aesthetic, the structure, and the behavior.
The NAVFAC dashboard prompt called for a dark command-center aesthetic, military intelligence theme, amber urgency indicators that pulse for critical contacts, monospace data fonts, a sidebar with color-coded tiers, a search bar, tier filters, and a full intelligence panel that populates on click.
When you write a prompt this specific, Claude does not guess. It executes. The result looked like a situation room (not a slide deck) because the brief said so explicitly.

Step 4
Build, then iterate. Claude generates a complete, self-contained HTML file that runs in any browser with no installation.
The first version is functional. Refinements are fast.
Pivot and make changes where you see fit.
Changing the colors. Different opportunity, different visuals, and different players. Tailored to how the customer is set up
Changing the color palette from dark to a warmer aesthetic is easy. From one follow-up prompt, Claude can produce an entirely different visual identity, with the same architecture, same intelligence, and have a completely different feel for a completely different audience.
Leveling Up
When the dashboard opens, the left sidebar shows every stakeholder organized by tier, from enterprise command authority down to hidden influencers nobody else is tracking. Color-coded. Priority-ordered. The most urgent contacts carry a pulsing amber indicator.
Click any name. The right panel populates instantly: their background, their publicly stated priorities, an influence rating split between award decisions and performance decisions, their network connections as clickable chips, and a full engagement strategy written specifically for them, not generic guidance, but direction grounded in what they’ve actually said publicly and what their current role demands.
Enter You and Your Business
Two items to address here:

Your business and your capabilities for this specific customer

Your overall positioning with the decision makers of the opportunity.
With Claude able to build a preliminary dashboard out for you, you can now add more depth and substance to how you want to look at your customer map.
AI builds first, then the human insight and engagement help provide clarity and depth so you can get a strong overview of you and your customer.
Add in context about your business, your capabilities of what you do (in this case, for NAVFAC Washington), add in relationships, and the strength of those relationships into Claude. Mark down where you have gaps, current hurdles, and any areas where you are weak.
*Not sure what to do here? Have Claude ask you 10 questions as it relates to your business and you and your business’s relationship with the customer. Claude will give you 10 questions (answer them in detail) and then will take those questions to update the overall dashboard.
What This is Not
This tool does not replace human relationship-building. It enables it.
Every data point in the dashboard comes from publicly available sources, official command websites, DoD news releases, SAM.gov records, and professional profiles people chose to make public.
There is no surveillance here. No data that wasn’t already accessible to anyone willing to look. What AI does is aggregate it, structure it, and make it actionable in a fraction of the time.
The engagement strategy a dashboard surfaces tells you what to say and why it matters to this specific person. It does not make the phone call. It does not build the trust in a 20-minute conversation. It does not decide whether to push or pull back when the energy in the room shifts.
Having a strong understanding of the decision makers for your next (or current) opportunity is critical. Claude can lay it out, blend in your knowledge of where you sit, where your strengths are, where your weaknesses are, and be able to have a visual that can help you decide where you need to spend time on building relationships, finding teammates that can help you, making data-driven decisions around your Go/No-Go, and helping you positiong for success.
AI shows you the door. You still have to walk through it.

The gap between those two groups is not intelligence. It is not budget. It is not access to technology; every tool described in this piece is available to you right now, today, at little to no cost.
This example was done on a public sector opportunity, but it can be replicated on other projects as well. You can also build it up with information you have at your fingertips as well.
The gap is the willingness to stop doing the thing that has always been done and build the thing that actually works.
